Which Contributes More To Weight Loss - Exercise Or Nutrition?

An understanding of fat burning exercise and nutrition are both vital to achieve and sustain permanent weight loss and fat reduction. But which has more of an impact on fat burning?? Scientists carried out a couple of exercises to fcome up with the answer.

Weight Loss Studies

There have only been a few studies to establish whether fat burning exercise or nutrition has a bigger impact on fat burning. As few studies like this had been conducted, scientists followed them closely.

They studied people who moved from big cities to the suburbs, and the reverse, to determine the affect of the move on the weight of the subjects. The subjects in the cities and the suburbs had similar diet intakes. The results were expected, but fascinating.

Findings from the studies

  • within the first year of moving from a city to the suburbs, the participants in the studies gained, on average, 15 pounds
  • within the first six to eight months of moving to a city from the suburbs, the subjects in the studies lost an average of 15 pounds

The main conclusion of the studies was as follows: The subjects living in a city did more walking than the subjects living in the suburbs. While subjects living in the suburbs rode in a car to get to wherever they wanted to go (supermarket or school etc), subjects in the city often walked there. Both weight gain and weight loss was attributed to this.

An expert in the field of Applied Physiology and Nutrition has said that fat burning exercise has a bigger impact on fat loss and permanent weight loss than nutrition. In terms of the relative impact that exercise and nutrition have on weight loss, it was said that exercise is accountable for 65% while nutrition is 35%.

If you want to get rid of the excess weight and fat on your body, you will need to exercise as well as pay attention to nutrition. However we are imperfect, as is the world around us.

Is there something of value that you can take from these results?

Can you burn fat and lose weight permanently if:

  • you follow the right exercise routine, but do not change your diet?
  • you adhere to a diet that should help you to lose weight, but you do no exercise?
  • you only somewhat abide by the direction provided for nutrition and exercise?
